Should I avoid self-clean on my Dacor wall oven?

Self-clean pushes the oven and its electronics to their hottest point, and on an older unit with a weak cooling fan that is when boards fail. If you use it, stay nearby and make sure the cooling fan runs. Many owners clean by hand and use self-clean sparingly.

My oven bakes unevenly in my Northwest Charlotte home. What should I check?

Use an oven thermometer to see how far off it is. If it swings widely or sits well away from the setting, the temperature sensor, bake element or igniter is probably failing. Many ranges allow a small calibration adjustment, but larger errors need a diagnosis.

The oven shows an error after the power went out near Mountain Island Lake. Is it damaged?

Not necessarily. Switch off the breaker for several minutes and restore it, which often clears errors from a power flicker. If the error returns, we read the code and test the sensor and board before recommending a part.

Temperature Swings and Surge-Affected Controls

If baked goods burn at the edges or stay raw in the middle, the oven is often running off its set temperature. A failing temperature sensor, a weak bake element in an electric oven or a tired igniter in a gas oven is the usual cause. In older homes along the Beatties Ford Road corridor, ovens that have cooked for many years tend to show these wear failures first. Newer ranges in the subdivisions near the lake rely on electronic controls, and the frequent storm outages on wooded lots can leave a control board locked up, showing an error or refusing to heat.

Before You Book and During the Visit

Set an oven thermometer on the center rack and compare its reading with the setting after the oven has preheated. Turning the breaker off for several minutes can reset a frozen control. Never work on gas components. Any smell of gas is a reason to get out of the house first and phone the gas utility or 911 from the yard.
