Houses, Apartments & Condos Across the Charlotte Area
GE Appliances is an American appliance maker based in Louisville, Kentucky, owned by Haier, which acquired it in 2016, and one of the largest brands in the country. The GE badge covers a very wide span, from basic builder-grade models through the GE Profile line, with the Café and Monogram brands above them for premium and luxury kitchens. With GE we pin down exactly which line and generation we are working on, because a builder-grade GE and a Café unit built the same year can share almost nothing inside. We read the oven F-codes and control diagnostics where they exist, confirm them with direct testing, and tell you honestly when an older or Hotpoint-era part has become hard to find.

One Badge, Several Very Different Product Lines
Haier bought GE Appliances in 2016, but the company it still runs its own engineering and its main brand still covers a huge range. Entry-level GE models dominate apartment complexes and builder packages, GE Profile adds connected features and better materials, Café brings customizable styling and pro-inspired features, and Monogram is the luxury built-in line. Hotpoint, an older budget badge, is also part of the family.
That spread matters for repair. A basic GE electric range from a rental complex near UNC Charlotte and a Café dual-fuel range in a SouthPark kitchen may have little in common inside. Some parts and failure patterns carry across, but controls, ignition systems and cooling designs vary widely, so the line and generation shape every diagnosis we make.
Engineering Choices That Shape GE Diagnosis
GE electronic ovens use a long-established set of F-codes, with F3 and F4 pointing to the oven temperature sensor circuit, F2 to an overheating condition and F9 to the door lock on many models. Those codes give a real head start, but we still test the sensor, lock or board before replacing anything, since wiring problems can trigger the same codes.
GE refrigerators rely heavily on main control boards that run fans, defrost and dispensers, and a failed board can mimic several mechanical problems. GE dishwashers use separate circulation and drain pumps, and some older models included a hard-food disposer. Gas ranges use spark ignition on the cooktop and a hot-surface igniter or spark system in the oven depending on the model.
The GE Problems We Are Called About Most
Refrigerator control boards top the list, especially on side-by-side and bottom-freezer models, where a board fault can stop fans, prevent defrost or kill the dispenser. Closely behind are ice maker fill and harvest problems and defrost failures that block airflow. On dishwashers, circulation pump and drain pump failures cause poor washing and standing water.
Gas range igniters and spark switches are common GE calls, especially when spills reach the burner base. Ovens report sensor faults through F-codes, and some lock up after self-clean. GE dryers wear out drum glides at the front, along with belts, idler pulleys and rollers, and suffer the same vent-driven no-heat failures as other brands.
Parts, Coverage and Whether Repair Makes Sense
GE's parts network is broad and most current parts can be obtained without much delay. Parts for older models, especially Hotpoint-era and discontinued lines, can get scarce, and we tell you that before promising anything. If your appliance is still covered by GE's manufacturer warranty or a protection plan, we point you there first.
Our work carries a 90-day parts and 30-day labor warranty. Most GE repairs, including boards, pumps, igniters, sensors and dryer wear parts, are worth doing. The tough calls are sealed-system failures on older refrigerators and boards for discontinued models, and premium Café or Monogram units that are worth more effort than a basic model. We will lay out the numbers so you can choose.
Local Factors That Matter for GE Appliances
GE refrigerator boards are vulnerable to power surges, and summer thunderstorms and the occasional ice storm bring plenty of outages to the region. A good surge protector or a whole-home protector is a sensible precaution for an expensive GE Profile or Café refrigerator. Humid weather makes refrigerator gaskets sweat and adds moisture to ice makers.
Dryer vents fill faster with spring pollen, and long vent runs in newer two-story homes add to the strain on GE heating parts. In outlying areas with well water, sediment can clog the screens in dishwasher and refrigerator water valves, so regular filter changes and occasional valve checks are worthwhile.
