Kenmore was Sears' house brand for generations, sold alongside Craftsman tools and DieHard batteries. Sears contracted the manufacturing out, so a Kenmore refrigerator might be a Whirlpool, a Frigidaire or an LG underneath, and the same goes for laundry, dishwashers and ranges. After Sears' bankruptcy, the brand moved to new ownership and is now sold through other retail channels.

Every Kenmore model number begins with three digits followed by a decimal point. That prefix is a manufacturer code. Some well-known examples: 106 for many Whirlpool-built refrigerators, 110 for Whirlpool-built washers and dryers, 665 for Whirlpool-built dishwashers, 253 for Frigidaire-built refrigerators and freezers, 790 for Frigidaire-built ranges and cooking, 417 for Frigidaire-built front-load laundry, and 795 and 796 for LG-built refrigerators and laundry.

The label is usually inside the refrigerator door, on the back of the washer lid or inside the dryer door, behind the oven drawer, or on the dishwasher tub edge. If you send us that number when you book, we can often anticipate which parts and diagnostic tests apply before we arrive.

A Whirlpool-built Kenmore top-load washer behaves like a Whirlpool, with familiar lid switch, drive coupler or shifter, and pump faults depending on its age. A Whirlpool-built Kenmore dryer blows thermal fuses when the vent clogs, wears drum rollers and belts, and on gas models weakens its valve coils. A Frigidaire-built Kenmore refrigerator has the same evaporator fan and defrost weaknesses as a Frigidaire.

LG-built Kenmore Elite refrigerators and front-load laundry share LG's engineering, including electronic controls and, on many refrigerators, LG's linear compressor technology.
