Kenmore Range Repair

Kenmore ranges were mostly built by Frigidaire, with the 790 prefix on the model number, though some came from other manufacturers over the years. They include freestanding and slide-in models in gas, electric coil, electric smoothtop and, on some newer models, induction. Many older Kenmore ranges are still running in homes across the area, often with simple mechanical controls.

On Frigidaire-built Kenmore gas ranges, the bake igniter and surface burner igniters are the most common failures. On electric coil models, burner receptacles and infinite switches wear out. Smoothtop models can lose a radiant element or switch. Newer ranges with electronic controls can develop board or touch panel failures. Because ranges combine a cooktop and an oven, we check both whenever one has a problem. Some Kenmore Elite slide-ins also used convection fans and dual-fuel setups, which add more components to test.

Find the model number, usually behind the storage drawer or along the frame, and share it when booking. Check that the breaker is on and, for gas ranges, the gas valve is open. On coil ranges, try swapping a dead burner into a working socket to see whether the burner or socket is at fault. If you smell gas, leave the home immediately and call the gas utility or 911 from a safe distance.

Our diagnosis confirms the maker, then tests igniters, switches, receptacles, elements, sensor and control. We check both the cooktop and oven to make sure a second problem is not hiding. If the range needs to be pulled out for access, we protect the floor and countertop. We also check the anti-tip bracket on freestanding Kenmore ranges, because older installations often skipped it, and it matters for safety when a child or heavy pot puts weight on the open door.

Most Kenmore range repairs are inexpensive and worthwhile. Discontinued parts for older ranges, especially knobs, boards or trim, can limit some repairs, and we will tell you if replacement makes more sense.
