About Roper Range Repair
The freestanding range is the Roper product most often found in rental kitchens across Mecklenburg and the surrounding counties. Electric models combine coil burners with a bake and broil oven, while gas models use spark-ignited burners and a glow-bar oven igniter. Both are built on basic Whirlpool designs with mechanical knobs and a small electronic or analog clock and oven control. Looking at the range as one appliance, rather than burner by burner, helps sort out faults that affect several parts at once.
On electric Ropers, a range that lost everything at once usually has a supply problem: a tripped breaker, a burned terminal block or a damaged cord. If only some burners work, or the oven heats but the burners do not, look at individual elements, switches and receptacles. On gas ranges, a dead clock and no spark together suggest a power issue, since both the spark module and oven igniter need electricity even though the fuel is gas. Ranges also suffer from broken door hinges and worn oven gaskets that let heat escape.
Start at the breaker panel, and on a gas range check that the cord is plugged in firmly; ranges get bumped when floors are cleaned. If the oven control shows a code, write it down and check the owner's manual. Avoid pulling a range out yourself on a tile floor without help, since the anti-tip bracket needs to be reconnected when it goes back. With the breaker off, check coil elements and receptacles for scorching.
We start with voltage at the terminal block or outlet, then test each circuit through the range: burners, oven elements or igniter, sensor and control. We also confirm the anti-tip bracket is in place when we finish. You get the diagnosis and price before work begins.
Most Roper range repairs are inexpensive. On a dated range with a failed control and discontinued parts, a new unit often makes more sense.
Where Roper Ranges Tend to Fail
- Burned terminal block leaving the whole electric range dead
- Loose gas range cord cutting power to spark and igniter
- Worn oven door hinges and gasket leaking heat into the kitchen
- Oven control fault on older Roper ranges with discontinued parts
