About Maytag Range Repair
Maytag has a long history with ranges, including the Gemini double-oven models that put a small upper oven above a larger lower one, an idea current Maytag double-oven ranges still carry. Today's freestanding and slide-in Maytag ranges are Whirlpool-platform designs with a Power Burner on gas cooktops, Power Preheat in the oven and electronic controls that run both cavities on double-oven models. On electric versions, everything draws from a single 240-volt supply that enters through a terminal block at the back.
Because oven and cooktop share that supply and wiring, some of the most confusing Maytag range failures happen at the back of the unit rather than in a burner or element. A terminal block connection that loosens over years of heat cycling can arc and scorch, so one leg of power is lost and the oven dies while a couple of surface elements still work. Electronic controls can fail or develop stuck keys and endless beeping. On double-oven models, the upper and lower cavities each have their own element set, sensor and lock, so one oven can fail while the other runs perfectly.
Before booking, flip both halves of the range's double breaker fully off and back on, which also resets the control after an outage. On a gas model, light a surface burner to confirm gas supply. Check that a control lock or Sabbath setting is not active. Leave a gas range in place rather than pulling it out yourself, and if you do slide an electric range out for cleaning, make sure the rear foot re-engages the anti-tip bracket.
We measure voltage at the terminal block, inspect the cord and harness for heat damage, test the control's relay outputs to each cavity and the cooktop, and test elements, igniters and sensors one by one. Every range visit includes a check that the anti-tip bracket is present and engaged.
Repairs on Maytag double-oven and slide-in ranges are usually good value, because replacements cost more and may not fit the same opening. On an older single-oven range with a failed control, a new range can be close in price, and we will lay that out honestly.
Where Maytag Ranges Tend to Fail
- Rear terminal block arcing, losing one leg of the 240-volt supply
- Electronic control failing with stuck keys or constant beeping
- Upper or lower cavity on a double-oven range failing independently
- Gas oven igniter weak although the Power Burner lights normally
