About Thor Range Repair
Thor's dual-fuel ranges pair gas burners on top with an electric convection oven below, so the range needs both a gas line and a 240-volt circuit. The brand also sells electric and induction ranges in the same pro-style shell. That split matters for diagnosis, because a dual-fuel Thor can have a perfectly healthy cooktop and a dead oven, or the other way around, and the two halves fail for completely different reasons.
On the oven side, the faults look like those of an electric wall oven: bake and broil elements that burn out, a convection element or fan motor that fails, a temperature sensor that drifts, and control boards or relays that stop sending power to a component. Surges from summer storms can damage those boards. On the gas side, the usual problems are clicking that will not stop, electrodes that do not spark, and burners that light unevenly. Induction models bring their own electronics, including cooling fans and power boards.
Before calling, notice which half is misbehaving. If the burners light but the oven stays cold, check the range's double-pole breaker, since a partial trip can leave the clock lit while elements get no power. If the oven works but the burners will not spark, confirm the range is plugged in or powered and the burner caps are seated. Turn off power before cleaning around the igniters, and if you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.
Our technician tests elements, the convection fan and sensor, and the board's output in each mode, and separately checks the spark module, switches and electrodes on top. On a dual-fuel range we also confirm the gas and electrical supplies are correct, because installation problems sometimes look like part failures.
Elements, sensors, fans, switches and spark modules are all reasonable repairs on a Thor dual-fuel range. Board failures are usually worth repairing too, though some boards take longer to arrive. Replacement makes sense mainly on an older range with several failing parts or a damaged cavity.
Where Thor Ranges Tend to Fail
- Electric oven elements burned out while gas burners work
- Convection fan or element failing in the dual-fuel oven
- Range control board relay damaged by a surge
- Spark module or electrodes failing on the gas cooktop
