About Amana Range Repair
Amana ranges are mostly freestanding models in gas, electric coil and electric smoothtop versions, built on Whirlpool platforms. They are common in rental homes, apartments and builder-grade kitchens. Controls are usually straightforward, with knobs for the cooktop and either knobs or a basic electronic panel for the oven. Because a range combines a cooktop and an oven, problems can come from either part. Many Amana gas ranges also put the broiler in the main oven cavity rather than a separate drawer, so one burner does both jobs.
On gas Amana ranges, the oven's bake igniter and the surface burner igniters are the most common failures, and burner ports clog from spills. On electric coil models, burner receptacles and infinite switches wear out, leaving a burner dead or stuck on high. On Amana smoothtops, a single radiant zone that stays dark usually traces to that element or its switch rather than the whole cooktop. Oven elements and sensors fail on electric models, and control boards can be damaged by surges.
Flip the range breaker fully off and back on, since a half-tripped double breaker can leave the oven working while the cooktop is dead. For gas ranges, confirm the gas valve is open. On coil models, try swapping a dead burner into a working socket to see whether the burner or socket is the problem. Make sure the anti-tip bracket is installed. If you smell gas, leave the house right away and phone the gas utility or 911 after you are outside.
Our diagnosis tests igniters, switches, receptacles, elements, sensor and control, checking both the cooktop and oven so a second problem does not show up a week later. Amana parts are shared with Whirlpool and widely available. If the range needs to be pulled out, we protect the floor.
Most Amana range repairs are inexpensive and worthwhile. A failed control or multiple major parts on an older basic range may make replacement the better choice, and we will tell you plainly.
Where Amana Ranges Tend to Fail
- Gas bake igniter weakening and delaying oven ignition
- Coil burner receptacle or infinite switch burned out
- Smoothtop radiant element or switch failure
- Oven sensor or control board damaged by surges
