About Amana Dishwasher Repair
Amana dishwashers are basic, Whirlpool-built machines, usually with plastic tubs, simple button controls and either a manual filter or, on older models, a hard-food disposer. They use a wash motor and pump, a drain pump, an inlet valve, a heating element and a door latch with switches. Builder-grade and rental kitchens across the area are full of them.
Drain problems are common. The drain pump clogs or fails, leaving water in the tub, and older disposer models can jam on glass or fruit pits. Inlet valves fail or clog, especially in homes on private wells, so the dishwasher does not fill. Door latches and switches wear out and keep the cycle from starting. Poor cleaning often comes from a clogged filter on newer models. Plastic tubs and basic racks are also more prone to tine and roller wear, which is cosmetic but annoying.
Shut off power to the dishwasher, then remove and rinse the filter at the bottom of the tub if your model has one. Check that the spray arms turn freely and their holes are clear. Make sure the drain hose is not kinked and the disposal knockout plug was removed. Run hot water at the sink before starting a cycle so the dishwasher fills with warm water. If water leaks onto the floor, turn off the supply valve under the sink.
Our diagnosis tests the drain pump, wash motor, inlet valve, door latch and switches, heating element and control. On older models with a disposer, we check for debris in the chopper. If you are on a well, we inspect the inlet screen for sediment. Most parts are shared with Whirlpool.
Pump, valve and latch repairs are usually worthwhile on an Amana dishwasher. A failed wash motor or control on an older basic unit may cost close to a new one, and we will give you an honest recommendation.
