LG dishwashers combine a stainless tub with a direct-drive inverter motor for the wash pump, spray arms that on QuadWash models rotate in multiple directions, and TrueSteam generators on some versions. A fine filter under the lower spray arm collects food particles and needs regular cleaning. The base of the unit holds a leak tray with a float switch, and the control board watches fill time, drain time and leak status closely.

LG dishwashers tell you what they think is wrong. OE means it could not drain, which is usually a clogged filter, a blocked drain hose or a disposer connection issue. IE is a fill problem, from a closed supply valve to a failed inlet valve. AE, sometimes shown as E1, indicates the leak sensor has detected water in the base. A gritty film on glasses or food left on dishes typically traces to a dirty filter, clogged spray arm nozzles, or the wash motor losing strength.

Start with the filter. Turn off power at the breaker, take out the lower rack, twist out the filter assembly and rinse it under warm water with a soft brush. Pull off the spray arms and clear the nozzles with a toothpick. Check that the drain hose under the sink has a high loop and is not crushed. On homes with well water, sediment can partially block the inlet valve screen and cause slow fills, and that is a place a technician can check without much cost.

We read the code, drain and dry the base pan if the leak sensor was tripped, and find the source of any leak under the tub. We test the drain pump, inlet valve, wash motor, heater and steam generator if fitted, and confirm the door latch and gasket seal correctly.

Most LG dishwasher faults are repairs worth doing. A control board or wash motor replacement on an older, entry-level unit is closer to replacement cost, and we will tell you that honestly.
