LG Freezer Repair

Most LG freezers in local homes are not standalone units at all. They are the bottom drawers of LG French-door refrigerators, the freezer side of side-by-sides, or in a few kitchens LG Studio or Signature column freezers paired with a matching refrigerator. LG's standalone freezer range in the United States has been small, so much of this work overlaps with refrigerator service, using the same compressor, control board and diagnostic codes.

Freezer drawers on LG French-door models often have an ice maker or ice bin in the drawer itself on some versions, and a second ice maker in the door on others. The freezer evaporator sits behind the rear panel of the drawer, along with the freezer fan. When the defrost heater or its sensor fails, frost builds until the fan cannot move air, and the display may show Er FF or Er dH. A drawer that slides back a little open because of bent rails or overloaded baskets causes frost on food and on the drawer walls, which is common with heavy summer stock-ups.

Check that the drawer slides close completely and that the gasket is clean and seated. Look for frost on the back panel, which suggests a defrost problem. Do not chip ice with a knife or screwdriver; it can puncture the evaporator. If the freezer is warm but the fresh-food section is cold, mention that when you book, since it points us toward the fan and defrost circuit first. Unplug the unit before cleaning near any fan or vent.

We check the freezer fan, defrost heater, defrost sensor and thermistors, read any stored codes, and inspect the drawer rails and gasket. If the freezer and fridge are both warming, we test the compressor and its drive board, including the linear compressor on models that use one.

Defrost, fan and drawer repairs are typically modest and worthwhile. Compressor failures depend heavily on whether LG's extended coverage applies, and we will check that before discussing price.
