About Everest Freezer Repair
An Everest reach-in freezer has to manage something a cooler barely deals with: ice on the evaporator coil. Every door opening brings in humid kitchen air, the moisture freezes onto the fins, and several times a day the freezer pauses cooling, energizes a defrost heater to clear the coil, and sends the water down a heated drain. A termination control ends the heat once the coil is clean.
When defrost stops working, the coil gradually packs with ice and airflow fades. The cabinet warms from the top down, ice cream softens, and the compressor runs nonstop with little effect. The usual suspects are an open defrost heater, a termination control that never closes or ends defrost too soon, a failed drain heater that lets meltwater refreeze in the line, or a controller or timer that no longer starts the cycle.
Freezer door gaskets wear faster than refrigerator gaskets because cold makes them stiffer. Check yours for cracks and for frost along the inside edge of the door frame. With power off, look under the unit and on the cabinet floor for ice or water that points to a drain problem. If the coil behind the rear panel is visibly encased in ice, moving product to another freezer and letting the unit defrost with the doors open can restore cooling temporarily.
We test each part of the defrost circuit: heater resistance, termination control behavior, drain heater function, and whether the controller or timer actually calls for defrost on schedule. We also check the condenser side, since a freezer fighting high head pressure in a hot kitchen will never pull down properly, and we look at the door-frame heater that keeps the gasket from freezing to the cabinet.
Defrost components and gaskets are inexpensive relative to the unit, so these repairs nearly always make sense. Compressor and sealed-system faults call for a frank repair-or-replace conversation, which we will have with you before any work.
Where Everest Freezers Tend to Fail
- Defrost heater burned open so the coil never clears
- Termination control stuck, ending defrost before ice is gone
- Drain heater failure refreezing meltwater in the drain line
- Door-frame heater fault letting the gasket freeze to the cabinet
