Amana Freezer Repair

Amana has a long history with home freezers, and its current lineup includes chest freezers and upright models, built on Whirlpool-sourced designs. Chest freezers are manual-defrost, with cooling coils inside the walls. Uprights come in manual-defrost and frost-free versions. Both often end up in garages, utility rooms or basements, which affects how they perform and what tends to fail. Amana's claim to the first upright home freezer is part of the brand's history, and the basic recipe of a simple thermostat, a reliable compressor and thick insulation has changed less than most appliances.

The most common Amana freezer complaints involve temperature. Thermostats wear and stop cycling correctly. Compressor start relays fail, leaving the freezer silent. Frost-free uprights develop defrost failures, letting frost block airflow. Lid and door gaskets tear or harden, letting humid air in, which causes rapid frost buildup on manual-defrost models. Check where the freezer sits and how hot or cold that space gets. Make sure there is clearance around the unit for airflow. If the freezer is silent, check the outlet and breaker first, and unplug it before cleaning around the compressor.
