Amana Cooktop Repair

Amana sells a limited selection of drop-in cooktops, mostly basic gas and electric models. Most Amana cooking we see is on freestanding ranges, but where an Amana cooktop is installed, it follows the same simple Whirlpool-based designs. Gas cooktops use sealed burners and spark igniters, while electric cooktops use coil or radiant elements with infinite switches.

On gas Amana cooktops, igniters and spark modules foul from spills, and burner ports clog, leading to clicking, weak flames or burners that will not light. On electric cooktops, elements burn out, coil receptacles scorch, and infinite switches fail. Radiant glass models can also lose a hot-surface indicator light. Because these are simple designs, the faults are usually easy to pin down. Older Amana cooktops in particular may need a little more time to find parts for, since the brand's cooktop range has been small.

Check that the breaker is on and, for gas, the supply valve under the cooktop is open. Clean burner caps and bases after spills and let them dry. On coil models, check that each burner is fully seated. Keep the cabinet below clear so we can reach the underside if needed. A cooktop that keeps tripping its breaker, or any gas odor, means it should stay off until it has been checked.

Our diagnosis tests igniters, spark modules, valves, elements, receptacles and switches. We also check the wiring connection in the junction box, since a loose or overheated connection there can mimic a failed element. Most service is done by lifting the cooktop slightly in its cutout or working from the cabinet underneath. Amana cooktop parts are shared with Whirlpool and generally easy to find.

Most Amana cooktop repairs are inexpensive and worthwhile, particularly since a replacement must fit the same countertop cutout. A cracked glass top or failed control on an older model may change the math, and we will lay it out honestly.
