About Admiral Cooktop Repair
Admiral built-in cooktops are uncommon, and most cooktop calls for the brand involve the surface of an Admiral range. Electric models usually have plug-in coil elements that sit in receptacles under drip pans, controlled by infinite switches behind each knob. Some later models have smooth glass tops with radiant elements. Gas models use open or sealed burners lit by spark igniters or, on very old units, standing pilots.
On coil cooktops, the most common issues are an element that doesn't heat, an element that only works on high, or one that sparks or flickers. These usually trace to a failed element, a burned receptacle where the element plugs in, or a worn infinite switch. Smooth-top models can lose radiant elements or have cracked glass. Gas cooktops see igniters that click without lighting, burners that light unevenly because of clogged ports, and spark modules that fail. Drip pans that are bent or caked with residue can also cause poor contact and uneven heating on coil models.
With the breaker off, swap a coil element that isn't working into a working position to see whether the problem follows the element or stays with the receptacle. Check the receptacle for burned or loose contacts. On gas tops, clean burner ports and dry the igniters after spills. Any gas smell means stop, open nothing electrical, go outdoors and call the gas company or 911.
Our technician tests elements, receptacles, infinite switches and wiring, and on gas tops, igniters, switches and the spark module. We check parts availability before quoting and tell you if the Admiral part is discontinued. You hear the diagnosis and price first. Where a receptacle has burned, we also inspect the wire leading to it, since heat damage often travels.
Coil elements, receptacles, switches and igniters are inexpensive and widely available as equivalents. Cracked glass on an older smooth-top Admiral may be hard to source, and we will be frank if replacement makes more sense.
