About Samsung Cooktop Repair

Samsung builds standalone cooktops in three styles: radiant electric glass, induction glass, and gas. The induction models are the most distinctive, using copper coils under the glass and power boards that vary the magnetic field, along with features like Flex Zone bridging and, on some, a Virtual Flame LED that shows heat level on the pan's side. Gas cooktops use sealed burners with spark ignition, and radiant units use ribbon elements controlled by touch sensors or knobs.

Each type has its own typical failure. On induction cooktops the most common call is a zone that will not recognize a pan, beeps, or shuts off, which can be cookware that is not magnetic enough, a cooling fan that has failed, or a power board that took a hit from a surge. On gas, the classic issue is constant clicking from a spark switch that stays shorted after a spill, or a burner that sparks but will not stay lit because the burner cap is misaligned. Radiant electric zones tend to fail by element burnout or a touch control that stops responding.

There are useful checks an owner can make. For induction, test the zone with a cast iron pan; if a magnet does not stick firmly to the pan bottom, it will not work. Make sure the cooling vents under the cooktop or in the cabinet are not blocked. For gas, turn off the cooktop, let it cool, remove and dry the burner caps, and seat them squarely. If a glass top is cracked, stop using it and turn off the breaker. Never attempt work on the gas connection yourself.

We test the induction power boards and coils, check the fan and temperature sensors, and look for scorched connections on the terminal block. On gas cooktops we test the spark module and switches, and on radiant models we measure element resistance and check the touch control.

Repairs to switches, igniters, elements and fans are usually worth doing. A cracked glass top or a failed induction board costs more, and on an older cooktop we will compare that against replacement honestly.

Where Samsung Cooktops Tend to Fail

  • Induction zone not detecting cookware or cutting out under load
  • Induction cooling fan failure causing overheating shutdowns
  • Gas spark switch shorted by spills, igniters clicking nonstop
  • Radiant element or touch control failing on glass-top models
