About DCS Cooktop Repair
DCS cooktops and rangetops are built-in gas cooking surfaces with heavy grates and sealed burners. Many have automatic reignition: each burner has an electrode and a spark module that senses when the flame goes out and relights it. Rangetops often include a griddle or grill section with its own burner and thermostat. Because they are fixed into the counter, access for service is from above or through the cabinet below.
The most frequent fault is constant clicking. Moisture from a boilover or cleaning, grease on the electrode, a cracked ceramic insulator or a misaligned burner cap can stop the module from detecting flame, so it keeps sparking. A burner that will not light may have a clogged port, a bad electrode or a failed module. Weak or yellow flames can come from blocked ports or a cap not seated properly. Griddle sections may not heat evenly because of a faulty thermostat or burner.
Any smell of gas comes first: leave, then call the gas utility or 911 from a safe spot outdoors. If there is no odor, turn off the cooktop and let it cool. Remove the burner caps and heads, clean them with a soft brush and warm water, dry them thoroughly, and seat them correctly. If clicking started after cleaning, allow the burner to dry completely. Never use a needle in burner ports, since that can enlarge them.
We inspect and test electrodes, spark modules, wiring, burner valves, griddle thermostats and burners. We also check the flame pattern and whether the gas pressure is reaching the burners properly. Leaks or regulator problems are handled with the gas supply shut off.
Electrode, module, valve and thermostat repairs are generally worth doing on a DCS cooktop, since replacing one means finding a unit that fits the same counter cutout. We check parts availability before quoting. If a rangetop has several burners with the same symptom, we look for a shared cause such as the spark module or a wet harness before replacing parts one by one.
Where DCS Cooktops Tend to Fail
- Reignition module clicking constantly after spills or cleaning
- Cracked electrode insulator preventing a strong spark
- Misaligned burner cap causing weak or uneven flames
- Griddle thermostat failure causing uneven heating
