Blomberg sells gas, radiant electric and induction cooktops, each with its own failure patterns. Gas models use sealed burners with spark ignition. Radiant electric models use elements beneath glass-ceramic glass. Induction models use copper coils under the glass that create a magnetic field to heat compatible cookware directly, controlled by power boards and a touch interface, with a cooling fan to protect the electronics.

On induction cooktops, a zone that will not heat may not be detecting the pan, which can mean the cookware is not magnetic or too small. A cooktop that shuts down after a few minutes often has a cooling fan failure or blocked ventilation underneath. Touch controls can become unresponsive when wet or when a board fails. Radiant electric models can lose an element or suffer cracked glass. Gas models have the familiar problems of clogged burners, wet switches and failed igniters.

Start with cookware and cleanliness. On induction, test with a magnet: if it sticks to the bottom of the pan, the pan should work. Wipe the glass surface dry, especially around the touch controls. Make sure the space under the cooktop is not blocked, since induction needs airflow. On gas models, clean burner caps and let them dry completely. If you smell gas, leave the home and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.

Fans, igniters and elements are usually worth replacing. Power board or glass failures on an older cooktop can be costly, and we will help you weigh repair against replacement.
