About Bosch Cooktop Repair
Bosch builds a large range of cooktops that drop into the countertop, including induction, electric radiant and gas models. Induction is the one we see most often. Instead of a glowing element, it uses copper coils beneath the glass and electronics that create a magnetic field. The pan heats directly, but the electronics generate heat of their own, so a cooling fan underneath keeps them within limits.
That cooling system is the most common weak point. If the fan fails or its intake under the counter is blocked, the cooktop may reduce power or shut down mid-cook. Power boards can fail after a surge or simply with age, often taking out one or two zones at a time. Touch controls can misread commands when wet or greasy. On gas cooktops, burner igniters and spark modules wear out, much as on a range.
You can safely do a few checks. Make sure your cookware is induction-compatible; a magnet should stick firmly to the base. Keep the cooktop and touch controls dry and clean. Look under the counter, if you have access, and clear anything blocking the fan intake, especially in a drawer directly below. If the cooktop trips a breaker or smells hot, switch off the breaker and stop using it.
During diagnosis, we check the fan, the power and control boards, and each induction coil with the proper tools. We also confirm the cooktop is on a correctly sized circuit, since an undersized circuit can cause nuisance trips. For gas models, we test igniters, spark modules and valves.
Fan and single-board repairs are often worthwhile on a Bosch induction cooktop, given what a new one costs and the fact that the countertop cutout is already sized for it. Multiple failed boards on an older cooktop may tip the balance toward replacement, and we will explain the tradeoff.

- Induction power board failure knocking out one or more zones
