About LG Cooktop Repair
LG cooktops come in three main forms: radiant electric glass tops, induction glass tops and sealed-burner gas. The radiant models often include dual and triple elements that switch between ring sizes, while the induction units use coils and power boards that regulate the magnetic field for each zone. Gas models use spark ignition and LG's UltraHeat high-output burners on some versions. Most are controlled by touch panels on the glass or front-mounted knobs.
With radiant LG cooktops, the most common fault is an element or one of its rings that stays cold, caused by a failed element, a bad switch or relay, or a burned connection at the terminal. Hot surface indicator lights may stay on or not come on at all if the indicator circuit fails. On induction, a zone that does not detect cookware, flashes an error or shuts off suddenly can trace to a cooling fan problem, a coil fault or a power board. Touch panels can misbehave when they are wet or have residue on them. Gas cooktops tend to have igniters that click without lighting.
Owners can try simple checks first. Wipe the touch controls clean and dry. On induction, confirm your cookware is magnetic and correctly sized for the zone. On gas, let the burners cool, remove the caps and heads, clean the ports and dry the parts before reassembling. Confirm the breaker is on for electric units. If the glass is cracked, turn off the breaker and stop using the cooktop.
We test each element and switch, check relays and the control board on radiant units, and on induction we test the coils, cooling fan and power boards. On gas units we check the spark module, switches and burner flame. We also inspect the junction box connection under the cooktop, where heat can loosen and scorch wires over time.
Element, switch and igniter repairs are almost always worth doing. Induction power boards and cracked glass are more costly, and on an older cooktop replacement may be the better choice.
Where LG Cooktops Tend to Fail
- Dual or triple radiant element ring failing to heat
- Induction cooling fan or power board fault shutting zones off
- Touch control unresponsive from residue or moisture on the glass
- Scorched junction box wiring under the cooktop cutting power
