About Frigidaire Cooktop Repair

Frigidaire cooktops drop into the countertop and come in gas, electric radiant and induction versions, including Gallery and Professional models. Gas models use sealed burners and spark igniters. Radiant models use elements under ceramic glass with switches or touch controls. Induction models use magnetic coils and power boards, with a cooling fan below the glass. Frigidaire has offered induction at more accessible prices than many brands, so these units are increasingly common.

Radiant cooktops can lose an element, a switch or a control board, and a hot-surface light may stay on or stop working. Induction cooktops depend on their cooling fan and power boards; a blocked fan or a surge can cause shutdowns or dead zones. Touch controls can misread commands when wet. On gas cooktops, igniters and spark modules foul from spills, and burner ports clog. Gallery induction cooktops may also include a bridge zone that links two coils, and a fault in either coil can take that zone down.

Confirm the breaker is on and, for gas, that the supply valve is open. On induction models, check that a magnet sticks to your cookware and that nothing below the counter blocks the fan. Keep touch controls dry. Clean gas burner caps and bases after spills and let them dry. If the cooktop trips the breaker repeatedly or you smell gas, stop using it and call for service.

During diagnosis, we test elements, switches, controls, induction boards, coils and fans, and gas igniters and valves. We also confirm the cooktop is on a properly sized circuit, since an undersized circuit can cause nuisance trips. Most work happens from above or below the counter.

Element, switch and igniter repairs are usually worthwhile on a Frigidaire cooktop. Multiple board failures on an older induction cooktop may cost close to a new unit, and we will lay that out honestly.

Where Frigidaire Cooktops Tend to Fail

  • Radiant element or switch failure on ceramic glass models
  • Induction cooling fan blocked, causing shutdowns mid-cook
  • Induction power board damaged by surge or age
  • Gas igniters fouled by spills, failing to light burners
