About Frigidaire Dryer Repair
Frigidaire dryers come in electric and gas versions, as standalone units and as the top half of laundry centers. Many Frigidaire models support the front of the drum on plastic or felt glides and the rear on rollers or a bearing, with a belt and idler pulley driving the drum. Electric models use a heating element and thermostats, and gas models use an igniter, flame sensor and gas valve coils.
Worn drum glides and rollers are a common Frigidaire complaint. As the front glides wear, the drum may squeak, scrape or leave black marks on clothes. Belts stretch or snap and idler pulleys wear out. Heat problems come from burned-out elements, failed thermostats, thermal fuses, or on gas models, weak igniters and failing valve coils. A clogged vent makes all of these worse, overheating the dryer and blowing fuses.
Clean the lint screen every load and check the vent hose behind the dryer for kinks or crushing. Go outside and make sure the exterior vent flap opens when the dryer runs. If drying takes more than one cycle, the vent may be clogged. Two-story homes with upstairs laundry rooms often have long vent runs that clog faster. Unplug the dryer, and for gas models shut off the gas, before moving it.
During diagnosis, we check airflow and vent condition first, then test the heating element or igniter and valve coils, thermostats, thermal fuse, belt, rollers, glides and motor. If the vent is the root cause, we explain that, since replacing a fuse without fixing the vent just leads to another failure.
Glides, rollers, belts, fuses and heating parts are usually inexpensive repairs on a Frigidaire dryer. A failed motor or control on an older model may be a closer call, and we will give you an honest recommendation. On a laundry center, the dryer sits above the washer in one frame, so we plan access before we start.
Where Frigidaire Dryers Tend to Fail
- Front drum glides worn, causing squeaks and black marks
- Thermal fuse blown from a restricted or crushed vent
- Gas igniter or valve coils failing, leaving no heat
- Belt or idler pulley worn, causing thumping or no tumble
