About Frigidaire Oven / Range Repair

Most Frigidaire ovens we work on are the oven cavity of a freestanding or slide-in range, though the brand also makes wall ovens, including Gallery and Professional models. Gas ovens use a hot-surface igniter that glows and opens the gas valve, while electric ovens use bake and broil elements. Newer models may add convection, air fry or steam clean modes, all controlled by an electronic board with a temperature sensor.

The bake igniter is the most common failure on gas Frigidaire ovens. As it weakens, the oven takes longer to light or fails to light, even though the igniter glows. Electric ovens see burned-out bake or broil elements, often with a visible break or blister. Temperature sensors drift and cause the oven to run hot or cold. Control boards and touch panels can fail, especially after storms or power surges. Air-fry models run the convection fan hard, so a noisy or slow fan motor is worth catching early.

Start by checking that the breaker is on and, for gas ovens, the gas valve is open. Look at the elements for visible damage. If a gas oven glows but does not light, the igniter is a likely suspect. Do not use a self-clean cycle to fix a heating problem. Any smell of gas means leaving the house first and calling the gas utility or 911 once you are outside.

Our diagnosis measures the igniter's current draw, tests the gas valve on gas ovens, and checks the elements, sensor and control board on all models. We also confirm the oven is calibrated correctly. For wall ovens, we may need to slide the unit out of the cabinet for access.

Igniters, elements and sensors are inexpensive and almost always worth replacing. A control board on an older basic range may cost a large share of a new one, and we will give you an honest recommendation.

Where Frigidaire Oven / Ranges Tend to Fail

  • Gas bake igniter glowing but too weak to open the valve
  • Bake or broil element burned out or blistered
  • Temperature sensor drifting, causing the oven to run hot or cold
  • Control board or touch panel damaged by a power surge
