About Samsung Dishwasher Repair
Samsung dishwashers share the usual tub, pump and spray-arm layout, but several models add the brand's own ideas. WaterWall units replace the lower spray arm with a fixed jet and a reflector bar that travels along a track at the back of the tub. StormWash models have a rotating jet zone. Nearly all of them use a leak sensor in the base pan that stops the cycle the moment water collects there, which is why a small drip can shut the whole machine down.
The fault we meet most often is a leak alarm, often shown as LC or a flashing indicator depending on the panel. Sometimes it is a real leak from a door gasket, a cracked sump or a loose hose. Sometimes it is just suds from the wrong detergent splashing past the door and triggering the float. Drain faults are next, typically a clogged filter or a drain hose kinked behind the cabinet. On WaterWall models the reflector can stop moving if its track or drive motor gets jammed with debris, and the bottom rack comes out filmy while the top rack is fine.
Owners can check a few things after switching off the dishwasher at its breaker or unplugging it. Pull the bottom rack and remove the cylindrical filter, rinse it, and clear food from the sump. Look under the sink at the drain hose and the disposer connection, and if a disposer was just installed, confirm the knockout plug was removed. Use only automatic dishwasher detergent, never hand soap, to avoid suds alarms.
Our technician drains the base pan, dries the float, and runs the unit with the kick plate off to find any leak at its source. We test the drain pump, circulation motor, heater and water inlet valve, and inspect the door hinges and cables, which on some Samsung models wear and let the door drop open hard.
Pumps, valves, sensors, door seals and hinge kits are all worthwhile repairs. A failed control board on an older budget model is the one case where replacement may compete closely on cost.
Where Samsung Dishwashers Tend to Fail
- Leak sensor float tripped by suds or a slow door gasket leak
- WaterWall reflector bar stalled on its track, lower rack left dirty
- Drain pump clogged or filter blocked, standing water after cycles
- Door hinge springs or cables worn, door falls open abruptly
