About Roper Dishwasher Repair
Roper dishwashers are Whirlpool-built basic models, and the ones we see span a wide age range. Older units often use a self-cleaning hard food disposer that chops debris before it reaches the drain. Newer Whirlpool-platform machines use a removable filter assembly in the tub floor that needs regular cleaning, a quieter circulation motor and a separate drain pump. Both types rely on a float switch, an inlet valve, a heating element and a door latch.
If your newer Roper smells sour or leaves food film on dishes, the removable filter is very often clogged, because many owners do not know it is there. Standing water after a cycle can come from the same filter, a jammed drain pump or a drain hose that sags without a high loop. A dishwasher that will not fill may have a failed inlet valve or a float stuck in the up position. A machine that is completely dead may have a failed door latch switch or, on some Whirlpool-platform controls, a blown thermal fuse.
Start with what is safe and visible. Twist out and rinse the filter if your model has one, clear any debris from the sump, and make sure the float in the front corner of the tub moves freely. Check under the sink for a kinked hose or a disposal knockout plug that was never removed. Homes on private wells may see sediment in the inlet screen, which can reduce water volume over time.
We test the drain and circulation motors, the inlet valve, the float switch, the heater and the latch, and check for slow leaks under the tub that can damage flooring. We tell you what failed and the price before starting.
Filters, pumps, valves and latches are worth repairing. A cracked tub or failed control on an older Roper is usually a sign to replace.
Where Roper Dishwashers Tend to Fail
- Clogged removable filter causing odor and poor washing
- Float switch stuck up so the inlet valve never opens
- Drain pump jammed and leaving standing water after cycles
- Door latch switch failing so the cycle will not start
