Thermador Dishwasher Repair

Thermador dishwashers, including the Star Sapphire and related lines, are built on the same BSH engineering platform as Bosch dishwashers. They use a cylindrical filter in the base, a drain pump below a small cover, a circulation pump with an integrated flow-through heater, and a leak protection system with a float switch in the base pan. Many models offer StarDry, which uses a mineral called zeolite to help dry dishes, and third-rack cutlery storage.

The most common Thermador dishwasher complaint is a machine that stops and won't run because the leak protection has detected water in the base. The water might come from a loose hose, a worn door seal, a cracked spray arm hub, or too many suds from the wrong detergent. Drain faults from a clogged filter or a jammed drain pump are next. Heating problems usually point to the circulation pump and heater assembly, which is a known wear point on this platform. Door hinge springs on panel-ready models can also weaken.

Owners can safely do a few things first. Turn off power to the dishwasher. Twist out and clean the filter in the base, and check the drain pump cover beneath it for glass or debris. Use only automatic dishwasher detergent, never dish soap. Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked and that a new disposal had its knockout plug removed. If you suspect water in the base pan, call us rather than tipping the dishwasher.

Pumps, heaters, seals and hinge springs are reasonable repairs on a Thermador dishwasher. On older units with control board and pump failures at once, we will tell you honestly if replacement is wiser.
