Miele dishwashers are known for quiet operation, a third-level cutlery tray, and on many models automatic detergent dosing. They also include a built-in water softener that needs reactivation salt, and a leak protection system with a float in the base tray. If water reaches that tray, the dishwasher stops filling, runs the drain pump, and shows a fault message. Many integrated models open with a knock on the panel or a push-to-open door.

The most common Miele dishwasher call is a machine that drains continuously or refuses to start because the leak protection has tripped. The cause may be a loose hose, a seal, a cracked component or simply excessive suds from the wrong detergent. Other frequent issues are drain faults from a clogged filter or pump, poor cleaning when the filter combination is neglected, and white film on dishes when the salt reservoir runs dry. In homes on well water, inlet screens can clog with sediment.

There are safe steps you can take first. Turn off the circuit and water supply if the machine is draining nonstop. Remove and clean the filter combination at the bottom of the tub and check the drain pump area beneath it for glass or debris. Make sure the salt reservoir and rinse aid are filled. Use only dishwasher detergent, since dish soap can foam enough to trip the leak protection.
