About Thermador Microwave Repair
Thermador's best-known microwave is the MicroDrawer, a drawer-style unit installed below a counter or wall oven that opens and closes automatically with a touch. The brand also offers built-in microwaves and speed ovens that combine microwave and convection heating. The MicroDrawer's motorized mechanism adds components that conventional microwaves do not have. Because the drawer opens toward you at counter height, it is easy to load and popular in islands, but it also means the drawer slides carry weight every day.
MicroDrawer problems often involve the drawer itself: it won't open, won't close, opens partway, or stops responding. The cause may be the drawer motor, gears, rails, a door switch or the control. Heating failures point to the magnetron, high-voltage components or interlocks. Built-in microwaves and speed ovens share heating issues and can also lose convection elements or fans. Spills that run into the drawer track can gum up the rails over time, and a child leaning on an open drawer can bend them.
Owner checks are limited because microwaves store dangerous voltage. Confirm the breaker is on. Check that nothing is blocking the drawer's path. Clean any debris from the drawer rails. Test with a cup of water. Do not open the cabinet or try internal repairs. If the drawer stalls, avoid forcing it by hand, since that can strip the gears.
Our technician safely tests the drawer motor, gears, rails and switches, the magnetron and high-voltage system, and the control. For speed ovens we test convection components. We explain the diagnosis and price before starting. We also check for loose mounting, since a drawer that is not level in its opening can bind as it travels.
MicroDrawer and built-in microwave repairs are often worthwhile because replacing these units requires matching specific cutouts. If a part has a long lead time, we let you know. A magnetron failure on a newer unit is still usually worth fixing.
Where Thermador Microwaves Tend to Fail
- Drawer motor or gear failure preventing the MicroDrawer from moving
- Rail obstruction causing the drawer to stop partway
- Magnetron or high-voltage failure stopping all heating
- Door switch or control faults preventing operation
