About JennAir Microwave Repair
JennAir microwaves are usually built-in units: microwave drawers set under a counter or island, built-in microwave ovens trimmed into a cabinet, combination wall ovens with a microwave on top, and over-the-range models. Drawer models add a motorized opening mechanism with a sensor and a drive assembly, which is one more moving part than a conventional door. Speed-cook and convection-microwave models add a heating element and fan.
Common faults include a microwave that runs but does not heat, a drawer that will not open or close smoothly, a control panel that stops responding, and a light or turntable that quits. No-heat problems usually come from the high-voltage system, including the magnetron, diode or capacitor, or from a door switch. Drawer faults often trace to a misaligned track, an obstruction or the drive motor. On combination units, the microwave and the oven below share space but generally have separate controls.
You can safely check a few things. Make sure the circuit is on and the outlet or breaker has not tripped. On a drawer, look for a utensil or food item caught in the track. Try the control lock function, which can make the panel look dead. Do not remove the cover of any microwave, because the capacitor can hold a dangerous charge even when unplugged.
Our technician discharges the high-voltage circuit before testing anything, then checks the door or drawer switches, magnetron, diode, capacitor and fuse. On drawers we test the drive assembly and position sensors. Built-in units often have to be removed from the cabinet, which we do carefully to protect the trim kit.
Over-the-range microwaves are frequently cheaper to replace than repair, but built-in JennAir microwaves and drawers fill specific cutouts, so repair is often the better value. We will tell you honestly which side of that line your unit falls on.
Where JennAir Microwaves Tend to Fail
- Magnetron or high-voltage diode failure, so the microwave runs without heating
- Microwave drawer drive motor or track fault preventing smooth opening
- Door or drawer interlock switch failure stopping the unit from starting
- Touch control panel unresponsive after a power surge or moisture
