About Fisher & Paykel Microwave Repair
Fisher & Paykel microwaves are built-in appliances meant to sit in a tall cabinet or wall alongside the brand's ovens, and many are combination models that add convection and grill heating to standard microwave cooking. That makes them closer to a compact oven than a countertop microwave. Inside, the usual high-voltage parts power the magnetron, while a separate heating element and fan handle convection, and a cooling fan pushes air through a vent in the trim to protect the electronics and cabinetry.
Because of that dual design, symptoms split into two groups. If microwave mode runs without warming food but convection still bakes, the high-voltage side, usually the magnetron, diode or capacitor, has failed. If convection stays cold while microwave mode works, the element or convection fan is the likely cause. A unit that shuts off partway through a cycle often has a cooling fan problem or a blocked trim vent. Door switches wear with use and can blow the internal fuse, leaving the unit completely dead.
From outside the case, check the breaker, try both microwave and convection modes to see which works, and test heating with a cup of water. Make sure the trim vents are not blocked by a towel or decor. Do not remove the outer casing; the high-voltage capacitor can hold a dangerous charge even after the power is off.
We discharge the high-voltage circuit safely, test the door interlocks, fuse, magnetron, diode and capacitor, and check the convection element, fans and control. Built-in units have to slide out of their cabinet for some repairs, so we protect the trim and surrounding finishes. Parts availability is confirmed before quoting.
Switches, fuses, fans and elements are reasonable repairs. Even magnetron or control failures are often worth fixing, since a replacement has to match the cutout and the ovens beside it.
Where Fisher & Paykel Microwaves Tend to Fail
- Magnetron or diode failure while convection mode still works
- Convection element or fan failure on combination models
- Door interlock switch failure blowing the internal fuse
- Blocked trim vent or failed cooling fan forcing shutdowns
