About JennAir Stove Repair
On a JennAir stove, the cooking surface is where most daily wear happens. Gas models use sealed burners with brass or aluminum caps and an electronic spark ignition system, often with dual-stacked burners that can simmer very low. Electric and induction stoves use radiant elements or coils under a glass top. Some older JennAir stoves also have a built-in downdraft vent between the burners, which brings its own blower and filter into the picture.
The most common complaint is a burner that clicks continuously, or one that clicks and will not light. Moisture from a boil-over, a cap sitting slightly crooked, or grease on the spark electrode are the usual causes, though a failed spark module or switch is also possible. A burner with a weak, yellow or uneven flame often has clogged ports. On electric tops, a single element that stays cold points to the element itself or its switch.
There are safe things to try first. Let the stove cool, turn it off, and make sure each burner cap is centered and flat. Dry any wet burner bases with a towel, and clean ports with a soft brush, not a toothpick that can break off. If constant clicking started after cleaning, give the area a day to dry. Never adjust gas valves or connections, and if you smell gas, leave and call the gas utility or 911.
When we arrive we inspect the burner heads and electrodes, test the spark module and the burner switches, and check gas flow and flame quality. On electric tops we test the elements, switches and any touch control boards. If a downdraft vent is involved, we evaluate its blower and duct as a separate system.
Igniters, switches, spark modules and burner caps are modest repairs that keep a quality stove working for years. A cracked glass top is the main surface repair where we would compare cost against replacement.
Where JennAir Stoves Tend to Fail
- Spark electrode fouled by spills, causing constant clicking on gas burners
- Spark module or burner switch failure preventing ignition
- Clogged or misaligned burner caps producing weak, uneven flames
- Radiant element or switch failure leaving one electric burner cold
