About La Cornue Stove Repair
Many owners call their La Cornue a stove, and quite often the range in question is a CornuFé, the brand's more standardized line. CornuFé ranges carry the La Cornue look, with the arched oven door, brass or chrome trim and classic knobs, but come in fixed widths and configurations rather than being built entirely to order. They typically pair gas burners with one or two ovens, and their parts are more consistent across units than those of the Château line.
The faults we see on CornuFé stoves are similar to other gas ranges with flame-safety systems. Burners that light but go out when the knob is released usually have a weak or misaligned thermocouple. Burners that click without lighting often have a dirty electrode or failing switch. Ovens can drift off temperature as the thermostat ages, and gas oven ignition can become unreliable. Trim and knobs can loosen, and the enamel finish can chip if heavy pans or tools strike it.
If you notice a gas smell, leave the home immediately and call the gas utility or 911 from a safe distance. When the stove is off and cool, you can remove and clean burner caps, dry them completely and set them back correctly. Check that the thermocouple tips are clean and positioned close to the burner. Use an oven thermometer to measure how far off the oven is.
Our technician confirms the model and configuration, tests thermocouples, igniters, switches, valves and oven thermostats, and checks the oven door and seals. We also look at trim and knobs and point out any finish care that would help.
Repairs on a CornuFé are usually worthwhile. Parts are often easier to source than for Château ranges, though they still come through La Cornue's channel and may take time. We give you the diagnosis, price and expected timing before any work.
Where La Cornue Stoves Tend to Fail
- Burner thermocouple too weak to keep the gas valve open
- Dirty electrode or failing switch causing clicking without flame
- Aging oven thermostat drifting off its setting
- Loose knobs, trim and chipped enamel from heavy use
