About Hotpoint Stove Repair
When people around here say stove, they often mean a gas range with open burners on top, and Hotpoint makes a straightforward version of that. The cooktop uses sealed burners with a spark igniter at each one, fed by a spark module that clicks all igniters at once when any knob is turned to light. Below sits a gas oven with a glow-bar igniter. It is a simple system, but it is sensitive to spills, moisture and misaligned parts.
The most common burner complaint is a clicking that will not stop, even after the flame is lit. Usually a spill has soaked a spark switch behind the knob, or moisture from a boil-over is shorting an igniter. The opposite problem, a burner that clicks but will not catch, typically comes from a clogged burner port, a misaligned cap or a cracked igniter. Weak, yellow or uneven flames point to dirty burner heads or a cap that is not seated, and only rarely to a gas supply issue.
There is a lot an owner can safely do. With the stove off and cool, lift the grates, remove the burner caps and heads, and clean them with warm soapy water and a soft brush, then let them dry completely. Make sure each cap sits flat and centered. Humidity in a Charlotte summer can slow drying after a cleaning, so give the parts extra time. If you ever smell gas, do not touch switches; leave the house and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.
When we come out, we inspect the burners, test the spark module and switches, and check igniter gaps and wiring. We will not adjust gas regulators or work on supply lines beyond the appliance itself, but we do confirm flame quality after the repair. You know the price before we start.
Spark switches, igniters and burner parts are inexpensive, so repairing a Hotpoint gas stove is usually well worth it.
Where Hotpoint Stoves Tend to Fail
- Wet or failed spark switch causing nonstop igniter clicking
- Clogged burner ports or misaligned caps preventing ignition
- Cracked ceramic igniter that sparks to the wrong place
- Spark module failing so no burner sparks at all
