GE Stove Repair

The stove top on a GE range takes many forms depending on the line. Basic GE electric stoves, common in apartments and rentals, often use coil elements with drip bowls, while mid-range and Profile models use smooth radiant glass. GE gas stoves use sealed burners with spark ignition, and Profile and Café ranges add high-output and tri-ring burners plus a griddle on some. The variety means GE stove repairs range from swapping a coil receptacle to diagnosing a spark system.

GE gas stove calls are often about ignition. A burner that clicks but will not light, a flame that only lights partway around, or clicking that continues after the burner is off usually involves a clogged burner, a wet or dirty electrode, or a failing spark switch or module. Electric GE stoves present different issues: coil element receptacles that burn and stop making contact, infinite switches that leave an element stuck high, and radiant elements that burn out or crack the surrounding glass on rare occasions.

Owners can let the stove cool, then clean and dry burner caps, heads and electrodes on gas models, making sure caps are seated correctly. On coil stoves, swap a known-good element into the dead position to see whether the problem follows the element. Check that both breaker legs are on for electric stoves. If you smell gas, leave the home and call the gas utility, and do not use a cracked glass top.

We test spark modules and switches, check gas flow and flame quality, measure element resistance, test infinite switches and inspect coil receptacles and wiring. For Profile and Café ranges we check tri-ring burners and griddle burners individually.

GE stove-top repairs are usually inexpensive and almost always worth doing. Replacing a glass top on an older, basic range is the main case where buying a new range may make more sense.
