Avanti's compact gas stoves, usually 20- or 24-inch freestanding units, pack four burners and a small oven into a footprint that fits tiny kitchens, garage apartments and older homes with narrow cabinet openings. Depending on the model, burners light by electronic spark or, on some simpler designs, by match or pilot, and the oven uses its own ignition and safety valve. The burners sit close together, so spills spread easily into neighboring parts.

A burner that will not light is often a clogged port, a misaligned cap or a crusted igniter. Continuous clicking usually means a wet or failed spark switch. Small or yellow flames point to dirty burners or a poorly seated head. On the oven side, a slow or failed light typically means a weak igniter or a safety valve that is not opening. Some Avanti models are shipped set for natural gas and need conversion for propane, so a mismatched setup can cause unusual flames.

With the stove off and cool, lift the grates and clean the burner caps and heads, then dry them fully and reseat them squarely. Clear ports with a fine wire, not a toothpick. If you recently moved to a home on propane, confirm the stove was converted for it. If you ever smell gas, leave at once and call the gas utility or 911 from outside, and do not operate any switches.

We test igniters, switches and the spark module, check oven ignition and the safety valve, and confirm flame quality. We do not alter household gas piping, but we will tell you if the setup looks wrong for the fuel. The price comes first.

Ignition and burner repairs are usually worth doing on an Avanti stove. A failed oven valve on an older compact unit may make replacement the better value.
