Avanti Washer Repair

Avanti washers are compact machines meant for apartments, condos and small laundry closets. Many are portable top-load designs that connect to a kitchen or bathroom faucet with a quick adapter and drain into a sink or tub, with a small motor turning a pulsator or impeller in the tub. These machines are light and easy to move, but their hoses, adapters and small drive parts take more wear than a full-size washer's plumbing.

Leaks are a leading complaint, and they usually come from the faucet adapter, a cracked fill hose or a drain hose that has slipped. A washer that fills but will not spin may have a worn lid switch or a slipping drive belt, and one that will not drain may have a clogged pump or a drain hose run too high. Overloading is a common trigger in compact machines, since a bulky comforter can overwhelm a small motor and suspension and set off repeated imbalance stops.

Check what you can before calling. Unplug the washer and close the faucet. Look at the adapter rubber washer, the fill hose and the drain hose for cracks or kinks. Make sure the drain end is not higher than the machine allows. Try a smaller, balanced load. In older Uptown or South End buildings with compact laundry, confirm the outlet you are using is not on a shared circuit that trips when the washer starts.
