About Electrolux Washer Repair
Electrolux washers in American homes are mostly front-loaders, many with a steam generator, a Perfect Steam or similar cycle, and a large door boot sealing the drum to the cabinet. They are quiet and gentle on clothes, and they share some hardware with Frigidaire's front-loaders. The bearing assembly, tub and some boards are specific to the Electrolux chassis, so ordering by the model and serial number is not optional.
The two problems we see most are tied to how front-loaders are built. First, the door boot traps water and lint in its folds. Charlotte humidity keeps that moisture from drying, so owners report a sour smell, black spots on the boot, or a small tear that starts a slow leak. Second, older machines can develop a roar or grinding sound at high spin, which usually means the rear tub bearings are failing. Drain pump clogs from socks and coins, door lock faults and steam generator scale round out the list.
There are useful things to check yourself first, with the washer unplugged. Open the small access panel at the bottom front and clean the pump filter, keeping towels down for the water that comes out. Wipe and inspect the door boot folds. Make sure the machine is level and shipping bolts were removed on a newer install. Use only HE detergent, in the measured amount.
Our diagnosis includes running the service test mode to check the lock, pump, valves and motor, listening to the bearings with the drum turned by hand, and checking for water at the steam generator and hoses. If the boot is the issue we replace it and clean the area properly. You get the diagnosis and price before we start.
Bearing replacement on a front-loader means taking the tub apart, so on an older Electrolux it can cost a large share of a new machine. Pumps, locks, boots and valves are straightforward repairs and usually worth doing.
