About Asko Washer Repair
Asko washers are compact front-loaders, usually 24 inches wide and designed to stack under a matching dryer. They use a stainless steel drum and a suspension built around shock absorbers inside a sturdy frame, which helps them stay steady at high spin speeds in a closet or upstairs laundry room. That solid build tends to push failures toward the parts that see constant small wear rather than toward the drum or frame.
The fault we see most is a washer that stops mid-cycle with water still in the drum. Asko places a pump trap behind a small hatch at the lower front, and it catches coins, hair clips, lint and the odd sock. When it fills up, draining slows and the control halts the cycle. Door locks and their switches are another regular item, along with mildewed door boots in humid months, worn shock absorbers on heavily used machines, and drum bearings late in a long life.
Unplug the washer first. Then place towels and a shallow pan under the front hatch, open the trap slowly to let water drain, and clear anything caught inside before sealing it again. Wipe the door boot folds and leave the door ajar between loads to slow mildew. If the door will not open after a cycle, give the lock a few minutes to release on its own, and never force the handle, because that can break the latch.
Our diagnosis covers the drain pump, the door lock circuit, the inlet valves, the motor and its control, and the suspension. On stacked pairs we plan for access, which sometimes means separating the units or pulling them forward. In Uptown and South End buildings, we ask about elevator and parking arrangements ahead of time so we arrive ready to work.
Repair usually makes sense on an Asko washer, since the drum and outer structure are built to outlast most other components. Bearing replacement is a bigger job and worth weighing against the age of the machine. If a main board has failed on an older model, we check availability before you commit.
Where Asko Washers Tend to Fail
- Pump trap clogged with coins, lint and small clothing
- Door lock or lock switch failing to engage or release
- Shock absorbers worn, causing loud spins and walking
- Door boot mildew from humidity and closed doors
