About Maytag Washer Repair
Maytag washers are the brand's best-known products. Current models are on Whirlpool platforms and include top-loaders with agitators or impellers, such as the Bravos line, plus front-load washers. Many top-loaders lock the lid during agitation and spin and use a drive belt or coupling with a gearcase and shifter. Maytag adds features such as Extra Power and Deep Fill, and some models carry a longer limited warranty on certain parts. Older pre-2006 Maytag machines, including Neptune front-loaders, are a different design.
Lid locks are a frequent failure on Maytag top-loaders. When the lock motor or its switch fails, the washer stops and may show a lid lock error. Drive belts and couplings wear and can cause a washer that fills and drains but does not agitate or spin properly. Drain pumps get clogged with small items. Suspension springs and dampers wear and cause banging during spin. Front-loaders have their own issues, including door boot odors and drain filter clogs, which are worse in a humid summer.
Owners can unplug the washer and make sure the lid closes fully and the lock area is clean. Check the inlet hoses for kinks and confirm both faucets are open. If you are on a well, the inlet screens may clog with sediment, causing slow fill. On front-loaders, clean the drain pump filter if accessible, using a pan for water. Run a normal load spread evenly to rule out an imbalance.
We test the lid lock and its wiring, inspect the drive belt or coupling, shifter and gearcase, test the drain pump and inlet valves, and check suspension parts. For older Maytag designs, we confirm parts availability before quoting.
Lid locks, belts, couplings, pumps and valves are worthwhile repairs on Maytag washers. A failed gearcase or tub bearing on an older washer may make replacement more sensible, and we will tell you honestly.
