Maytag Stove Repair

When people talk about their Maytag stove, they almost always mean the top of a Maytag range, and the brand has put more effort into that surface than most. Gas models carry the Power Burner, a large high-output burner meant for fast boiling and searing, along with a simmer burner and heavy continuous grates. Electric Maytag stoves use radiant glass tops with dual-size elements on many models, while basic models still use coil elements with chrome drip bowls. In older homes you may also find Maytag Gemini ranges and earlier independent Maytag designs still cooking every day.

Gas Maytag stove problems are usually about ignition and flame. A Power Burner that lights slowly or burns unevenly is often fighting a cap that has shifted a few millimeters or ports packed with boil-over residue. A spark switch on the valve stem that gets wet from a spill can keep every igniter clicking long after the knob is off. On electric stoves, coil receptacles pit and burn so the element works only if it is wiggled, infinite switches can weld closed and leave an element on high, and radiant elements eventually burn open.

With the stove cool and the knobs off, owners can lift the grates and caps, scrub the burner heads, open clogged ports with a straight pin rather than a toothpick that can break off, and dry everything before reassembly. On coil tops, swapping a good element into the suspect spot shows whether the element or the receptacle is at fault. Confirm the electric range breaker is fully on. If the glass top is cracked, stop using it, and if you smell gas, get out and call the gas company.

Our technician tests the spark module and each valve switch, checks flame pattern and gas pressure at the Power Burner, measures element resistance and checks switch output, and replaces burned receptacles along with their elements so the new parts make clean contact. On older Gemini and pre-acquisition ranges we confirm the part still exists before quoting.

Burner, igniter, switch, receptacle and element repairs on a Maytag stove top are inexpensive compared with a new range. A replacement glass top on an older basic model is the one repair that can justify shopping instead.
