About Admiral Stove Repair
An Admiral stove is usually a basic freestanding range in a rental home, a mid-century ranch kitchen or a second kitchen. Electric models have coil burners or a smooth top above an oven with bake and broil elements. Gas models have surface burners with spark or pilot ignition and a glow-bar igniter in the oven. Controls are simple knobs and, on later models, a small electronic clock or oven control. Some older gas Admiral stoves still have standing pilot lights rather than electronic ignition.
Common problems include a coil burner that won't heat, a burner stuck on high, an oven that won't heat because of a failed bake element or weak gas igniter, an oven that runs hot or cold from a drifting thermostat, and gas burners that click without lighting. Oven door hinges loosen and the door doesn't close tightly. On very old gas stoves, pilot lights can go out or burn weakly. Gas stoves can also burn with yellow, lazy flames when the burner ports or air shutters are dirty, which is worth correcting for both cooking and safety.
Owners can check several things. Turn off the breaker before inspecting electric parts, and swap a coil into another position to see whether the problem follows it. For gas stoves, clean burner ports and dry the igniters after spills. Use an oven thermometer to check the oven. If you notice a gas smell, leave and call the gas utility from outside.
Our technician tests coil elements, receptacles, infinite switches, bake and broil elements, the thermostat, the oven igniter and the gas valve. We check parts availability and cross-references before quoting. You get the diagnosis and price before work starts.
Admiral stove parts are mostly inexpensive and widely available. If several parts have failed on an old stove, or a key part is discontinued, replacement may be wiser, and we will say so. If the stove is in a rental, we can give a landlord the details needed to approve the work quickly.
Where Admiral Stoves Tend to Fail
- Coil burner receptacle or switch failure causing a dead burner
- Bake element or gas igniter failure leaving the oven cold
- Mechanical oven thermostat drift producing uneven baking
- Standing pilot outages on very old gas Admiral stoves
