About Roper Stove Repair
A Roper gas stove pairs four sealed or open burners on top with a gas oven below, all built on basic Whirlpool hardware. Ignition is electric on most models still in use: turning any burner knob closes a spark switch, which signals a spark module to fire every igniter at once. Some very old Ropers may still use standing pilots, which behave differently and need their own approach. Simple as the system is, small things like spills or a misplaced cap can stop it from working.
The most familiar problems are a burner that clicks without lighting, a burner that keeps clicking after it lights, and a flame that burns yellow or lifts off the burner. Clicking without lighting is often a clogged port, a cap out of position or an igniter tip that is cracked or crusted with food. Constant clicking usually traces to a wet or failed spark switch. Yellow or noisy flames point to dirty burners, misaligned parts or, less commonly, an air shutter that needs adjustment.
With the stove off and cool, remove the grates and burner caps, wash them, clear the ports with a straightened paper clip rather than a toothpick that can break off, and dry everything fully. After a big boil-over, give the switches under the knobs time to dry before deciding a part has failed. Never try to fix a gas leak yourself; if you smell gas, leave right away and call the gas utility or 911 once you are outside.
Our technician checks each igniter, the switches and the spark module, cleans and reseats burners, and checks flame color across the full range of settings. We work only on the appliance itself and not on household gas piping. The price is explained before any work.
Burner and ignition repairs on a Roper stove are inexpensive and almost always worth it.
