About KitchenAid Stove Repair
This page covers the surface of a KitchenAid stove, the burners or elements you cook on every day, whether that is on a slide-in range or a commercial-style model. KitchenAid gas stovetops use sealed burners with electronic spark ignition, and many include a high-output burner for searing and a simmer burner. Electric models use radiant elements under a glass surface with electronic or knob controls.
On gas burners, residue from boil-overs is the main troublemaker. It fouls igniter tips, clogs burner ports and misaligns caps, causing weak flames, constant clicking or a burner that will not light. The spark module or burner switches can fail, especially if moisture reaches them. On glass tops, a radiant element can burn out, a switch or control can fail, and the glass itself can crack from impact or uneven heating. High-output burners run hot and are often the first to show discolored caps or slow ignition, simply because they get the heaviest use.
For gas, let the stovetop cool, remove caps and bases, and clean them with warm water and a soft brush. Let them dry fully and seat them evenly. Clear clogged ports with a straightened paperclip, never a toothpick, which can break inside. On glass tops, use flat-bottomed pans and clean spills promptly. Do not use a cracked glass top. If you smell gas, leave and call the gas utility or 911.
During diagnosis, we test the spark module, burner switches and wiring, and check gas flow at the burner. On electric tops, we measure element resistance and test controls. We also check for liquid damage beneath the surface, which can cause intermittent problems. If the glass is cracked, we explain replacement options and costs.
Most burner and igniter repairs cost little relative to a new KitchenAid stove. A cracked glass top or failed control on an older model needs more careful thought, and we will help you decide.
