About Viking Stove Repair
Most Viking stoves in local kitchens are freestanding all-gas pro ranges in 30, 36 or 48-inch widths, from the older Professional series and the newer 5 Series and 7 Series. On top are heavy sealed burners with spark ignition and cast grates. Below, the oven uses a gas bake burner lit by a hot-surface glow-bar igniter, and many models have a Gourmet-Glo infrared broiler at the top of the oven with its own igniter. Older stoves use a mechanical oven thermostat; newer ones use a sensor and electronic control.
The single most common Viking stove complaint is an oven that takes far too long to preheat or never lights. A glow-bar igniter weakens with age: it still glows orange, but it no longer draws enough current to open the oven's safety valve, so gas flow is delayed or stopped. On the cooktop, clicking without ignition usually means a wet or cracked igniter, while a stove where nothing sparks points to the spark module. Older ovens can run hot or cold as their thermostats drift. Heavy oven doors also sag on their hinges over time, letting heat leak.
With burners off and the stove cool, dry and reseat the burner caps and clean around the igniter tips. Turn on the oven and watch through the window or listen: a glow without flame after a minute or two is a strong hint of a weak igniter, and is worth mentioning when you book. Never adjust gas valves, regulators or orifices yourself. If a gas smell appears, leave the house first and phone the utility from outside.
Our technician measures the oven igniter's current draw, tests the safety valve, checks the thermostat or sensor against a calibrated probe, and inspects the broiler igniter, spark module and surface igniters. We also check hinges and the door gasket. We explain what we found in plain terms and give the price before replacing anything.
Igniters, thermostats, spark modules and hinges are routine repairs on a Viking stove, and the cast burners and cabinet outlast them by many years. Repair is almost always the better value.
Where Viking Stoves Tend to Fail
- Glow-bar igniter weakening so the gas oven heats slowly
- Spark module failure leaving every surface burner unlit
- Gourmet-Glo infrared broiler failing to ignite
- Mechanical oven thermostat drifting on older stoves
