About Amana Stove Repair
This page covers the cooking surface of an Amana stove, the burners or elements on top of the range. Amana stoves come with sealed gas burners, exposed electric coils or a smooth glass top over radiant elements. Gas burners use spark igniters, while electric burners use infinite switches. The designs are simple, which keeps most repairs quick and inexpensive. Coil models use plug-in elements with removable drip bowls, while gas models use sealed burners that keep spills out of the burner box.
On gas Amana stoves, igniters and spark modules foul from spills, causing constant clicking or burners that will not light. Burner ports clog and produce uneven flames. On coil stoves, the burner, its plug-in receptacle or the infinite switch can burn out, leaving a burner dead, intermittent or stuck on high. On glass tops, radiant elements and switches fail, and the glass can crack from impact. On radiant glass tops, a cooking zone that cycles off and on is normal behavior, which many owners mistake for a fault.
Let gas burners cool, then remove the caps and bases and wash them in warm water. Dry everything completely before putting it back. On coil stoves, check that each burner sits firmly in its socket, and replace any receptacle with scorch marks. Avoid lining drip pans with foil. On glass tops, never use the surface if it is cracked. Turn off the breaker or gas before inspecting anything electrical or gas-related.
Our diagnosis tests spark modules, switches, receptacles and elements, and checks gas flow at each burner. Scorched receptacle terminals get replaced along with the burner, because a burned contact will ruin a new element quickly. Amana stove parts are shared with Whirlpool and widely available.
Most Amana stove surface repairs are quick and inexpensive. A cracked glass top on an older basic stove may cost close to a new range, and we will tell you if that is the case so you can decide.
Where Amana Stoves Tend to Fail
- Gas spark igniter fouled, clicking or failing to light
- Coil receptacle scorched from a loose burner connection
- Infinite switch contacts welding, so a coil runs only on high
- Glass top radiant element burned out or glass cracked
