About Kenmore Stove Repair
This page focuses on the cooking surface of a Kenmore stove, whether it has gas burners, exposed electric coils or a smooth glass top. Most Kenmore stoves were built by Frigidaire, so the burner, switch and igniter designs match Frigidaire's. Some older and Elite models came from other makers. Knowing which one helps us bring the right parts. Older Kenmore coil stoves often have removable chrome or porcelain drip bowls under each burner, while newer smoothtops hide the elements under ceramic glass.
On gas Kenmore stoves, spark igniters and modules foul from spills, causing constant clicking or burners that will not light. Burner ports clog and produce uneven flames. On coil stoves, burners, plug-in receptacles and infinite switches burn out, leaving a burner dead or stuck on high. Glass tops can lose a radiant element or switch, and the glass can crack from impact or uneven heating. Much older Kenmore gas stoves may still use open burners and standing pilots instead of electronic spark ignition, and those need a different approach than modern sealed burners.
For gas, let the burners cool, clean the caps and bases, and dry them completely before reassembling. On coil stoves, make sure each burner is seated firmly; scorch marks on a receptacle mean it should be replaced. Glass tops last longer when sugary spills are wiped up before they bake onto the surface. Stop using a cracked glass top. Shut off the power or gas before checking anything beyond the burner caps.
During diagnosis, we confirm the maker and test spark modules, switches, receptacles and elements. We check gas flow at each burner. On older stoves, we confirm parts availability before recommending a repair, since some Kenmore-specific knobs and trim may be discontinued.
Most Kenmore stove surface repairs are quick and inexpensive. A cracked glass top or unavailable part on an older stove may tip the decision toward replacement, and we will tell you plainly.
