About Dacor Stove Repair
Most people who call about a Dacor stove mean the burners on top of a Dacor range or rangetop, and that is what this page covers. Dacor's gas surfaces use sealed burners, a mix of high-output and simmer burners, and electronic spark ignition with an automatic reignition feature on many models: if the flame goes out, the system senses it and sparks again. Many Dacor ranges also use lit knobs that glow when a burner is on.
That reignition feature is useful and also the source of a common complaint. When a burner cap is off-center, the burner is dirty, or moisture reaches a spark switch, the system thinks the flame is missing and keeps clicking. Ceramic igniters crack with age or a dropped grate. The spark module that feeds all the igniters can fail and leave every burner dead or every burner clicking. Gas valves behind the knobs stiffen, and the small light assemblies in lit knobs can burn out, which is harmless but common.
Owners can do the first round of checks. With the burners off and cool, lift each grate and cap, wipe the cap and burner head with a dry cloth, and set the cap back so it sits flat and centered. Clear clogged ports with a straightened paperclip rather than a toothpick that can break off. If a boil-over just happened, wait a day for things to dry before calling. If you smell gas that does not go away after a burner is turned off, leave and call the gas utility or 911 from outside; do not try to fix it.
Our technician checks each igniter's spark, tests the switch behind each knob, and verifies the spark module and the flame-sensing circuit. We also check flame quality, since yellow or lifting flames can point to a port or orifice issue rather than ignition.
Burner-side repairs on a Dacor are almost always worth it. Igniters, switches and modules are moderate parts, and they keep a range that otherwise works well in service for years.
Where Dacor Stoves Tend to Fail
- Reignition circuit clicking because the burner cap sits off-center
- Spark module failure leaving every burner dead or clicking
- Stiff gas valve behind the knob making simmer hard to set
- Burned-out lit knob light assemblies on illuminated controls
