Gaggenau began as an ironworks in the town of the same name in southwest Germany and is now the most exclusive brand in the BSH family, which also owns Bosch and Thermador. In the United States it sells almost entirely through luxury kitchen showrooms, and its products are designed by architects and kitchen designers rather than picked off a sales floor. You will mostly find it in custom and heavily renovated kitchens, including the larger homes around Myers Park and SouthPark.

The lineup centers on wall ovens and combi-steam ovens, the Vario modular cooktop system, fully integrated Vario cooling columns for fresh food, freezing and wine, panel-ready dishwashers, and built-in microwaves. Gaggenau does not really offer a conventional freestanding range here. When an owner says their Gaggenau stove is acting up, they usually mean a run of cooktop modules on the counter and a wall oven below or beside it.

Almost everything Gaggenau makes is controlled electronically, and much of it is modular. Each Vario cooktop element is its own appliance with its own control, power supply and, on gas units, its own ignition and flame supervision. Ovens rely on sensors, a main control board and a separate display or user interface, and combi-steam units add pumps, a steam generator and water-level sensing. A symptom that looks like a dead appliance is often one module or one sensor that has stopped reporting.

The other half of the picture is installation. Column refrigerators, integrated dishwashers and flush-mounted cooktops are built to close tolerances, and they depend on the cabinetry for support, alignment and airflow. A door that will not seal, an induction module that shuts itself down, or a dishwasher that leaks at the front can be an installation or cabinet problem rather than a failed part. Electronic control modules are the most common weak point across the brand. They are sensitive to voltage spikes, to heat that builds up in enclosed cabinets, and occasionally to moisture. On combi-steam ovens, mineral scale in the steam system is the leading cause of errors and poor steaming, especially when descaling reminders have been ignored or the unit is plumbed to untreated water.

On the cooling side, column units drift out of adjustment as hinges and cabinet panels settle, which lets warm humid air in and leads to frost, sweating and long run times. Dishwashers share BSH platform components, so we see the familiar pattern of clogged filters, tired drain pumps and the leak-protection base pan shutting a cycle down. Gas Vario modules tend to give trouble at the igniter and the flame-sensing thermocouple, usually after spills or heavy cleaning.

Gaggenau parts are supplied through the BSH factory parts channel, and many are specific to the brand. Common items can arrive reasonably quickly, but control boards, display modules and trim pieces sometimes take weeks.
