The bin sensor tells the machine to stop, and if it is blocked, dirty or failed, production continues until ice overflows. Check that nothing is in the way of the sensor. If it is clear, the sensor or control needs testing.

Our French-door ice compartment keeps frosting over. What causes that?

Usually a gap in the compartment seal or door gasket, a failing compartment heater, or a fan problem lets humid air in. Check that the ice bin is seated fully and the door closes evenly. If frost keeps returning, a technician can test the heater and fan.

Ice makers are one of the parts that give trouble earliest in newer builder refrigerators.
