Not always. Many JennAir ovens let you adjust the temperature offset in the settings menu, which fixes small, consistent errors. If the offset keeps changing or the oven swings widely during a bake, the sensor or control likely needs testing.

Smoke usually comes from grease or food burning on the oven floor or element, not a failed part. Let it cool and clean it, and take out any foil liner. If it smokes after cleaning or the element looks blistered, report it to your landlord for a repair.
